Dinosaurs are back! Turok: Origins reboot announced at Gamescom

Turok: Origins, a revival of the iconic dinosaur-hunting series that once became well-known on the Nintendo 64 in the 1990s, was revealed at Gamescom 2025 by US-based studio Saber Interactive.

With its combination of contemporary cinematic gameplay and survival against dinosaurs and aliens, the new game promises both single-player and multiplayer options.

Turok first appeared as a comic book hero in the 1950s, and by the late 1990s, he was well-known among gamers. The franchise declined following a poorly regarded 2008 remake; however, the early Turok games on the Nintendo 64 were adored for their inventive first-person action and prehistoric backgrounds.

The task of reviving Turok’s legacy has now been taken on by Saber Interactive, which is renowned for bringing dormant properties like Evil Dead and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine back to life.

Turok is finally making a big comeback with a brand-new game called Turok: Origins. The upcoming title is being developed by Saber Interactive after Universal Studios, the company behind the Jurassic Park movies, reached out to the studio in 2020 to bring the franchise back to life.

Turok: Origins is a third-person shooter that mixes dinosaur survival with alien combat. The game is inspired by the original Turok 1 and Turok 2 while adding new elements to create a more consistent universe. Players can expect gameplay that feels modern, with smooth movement, cinematic action, and intense battles. There will also be multiplayer modes where players can fight against AI enemies.

According to Saber’s studio head, Jesus Iglesias, the team wants to stay true to the roots of the franchise while still making it fresh for today’s gaming world. He also made it clear that this game will be very different from the 2008 reboot, which failed to impress both fans and critics.

At its busiest point, more than 250 developers were working on Turok: Origins, showing how much effort is going into making the game a proper return for the series. While the official release date has not been revealed yet, it has been confirmed that the game will launch on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

The announcement has already grabbed a lot of attention at Gamescom, and longtime fans are excited to finally see one of gaming’s most iconic dinosaur-hunting franchises making its long-awaited return.
