Karachi – Former Supreme Court judge Justice (Retired) Sarmad Jalal Usmani passed away in Karachi after a prolonged illness, officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to a statement from the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry, Justice Usmani had been battling cancer and was under treatment at a local hospital for an extended period.
His funeral prayer will be held tomorrow (Monday) after Asr prayer at Hamza Mosque, located in DHA Phase 8, Karachi.
Justice Usmani began his judicial career in 1998 when he was appointed as a judge of the Sindh High Court. During his tenure, he presided over cases involving shipping, banking, property, taxation, constitutional matters, and criminal law.
He was later elevated to the Supreme Court in September 2008, where he served with distinction until his retirement. His contributions to Pakistan’s judiciary, especially in complex commercial and constitutional cases, earned him a reputation for fairness and legal acumen.
Justice Usmani is remembered as a highly respected figure in the legal community for his integrity, depth of knowledge, and service to justice.
