Heavy rain and thunderstorms hit several cities in Punjab and northern Pakistan on Friday, bringing much-needed relief from the heat but also causing some disruptions. The weather change was due to a fresh western disturbance affecting the upper parts of the country.
In Lahore, dark clouds, lightning, and loud thunder were followed by heavy rain, cooling things down after days of hot, dry weather. Similar conditions were reported in Faisalabad, where rain and thunderstorms began early in the morning, and Bhakkar, which saw strong winds and showers.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the stormy weather also affected Islamabad, the Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and some parts of Balochistan and southern Punjab.
Rainfall amounts included 15mm in Dir, 10mm in Pattan, and 9mm in Kalam, with light showers in other areas like Malam Jabba and Saidu Sharif.
Karachi, however, stayed hot and humid, with temperatures between 33°C and 35°C but feeling closer to 39°C due to humidity. Some thunderclouds were expected near the city’s outskirts.
The PMD forecasted more rain and thunderstorms in tourist spots like Swat, Kalam, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, and Galiyat until Friday evening, with clearer skies likely over the weekend.
Authorities advised caution in hilly areas due to slippery roads and low visibility.
