Two new polio cases found in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Pakistan has reported two more polio cases in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, raising serious concerns among health officials. The latest cases were confirmed on Tuesday by the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC). The affected children belong to the Tank district and North Waziristan, areas already marked as high-risk for polio transmission.

The NEOC has termed the situation “alarming,” warning that the poliovirus is spreading consistently in southern KP. Officials said the region remains the main hotspot of outbreaks, making eradication a major challenge for health authorities.

To stop the virus from spreading further, a special anti-polio vaccination campaign will begin across Pakistan next month. Parents are being strongly advised to ensure that every child under the age of five receives polio drops during the drive.

Earlier this month, a five-month-old child from UC Suleman Khel in Lakki Marwat was also diagnosed with polio. With the two new confirmations, Pakistan’s total polio cases in 2025 have climbed to 23. The rise in cases has sparked concerns that the country’s decades-long fight against polio may face another major setback if urgent action is not taken.
